My motto used to be “What’s Next?” It’s the perfect on-the-job attitude. In order to speak the motto, one must have just completed a role-related task. It’s one hell of a productive attitude that still comes in handy.

Lately I’ve been thinking about human evolution in regards to religion, psychology, and spiritual practice.

Ok, I’ve been thinking of a new religion.

Christianity is great and everything. But one of its flaws is that it is expected of Americans, the UK, everywhere there is a white majority among citizens. The slope of complex errors with the religion reaches further, like the impossibility of constant surveillance by a being of Spirit with no beginning and no end.

Christ? The truth about Jesus of Nazareth was that he led a Jewish sect, an offshoot from the Judaism of the original Torah. Was reported as using magic in his life, and there is record of his death. But the absence of his body when sought by disciples could be attributed to a cruel joke by Nazarene leaders who knew followers of Jesus were gullible to mystery. It was only after the death of Jesus, that letters were circulated that, once edited by honored clergy, became the New Testament.

It was embraced because of the New Covenant, and spread because of its moral lessons, such as The Beatitudes.

Evolutionarily, there is no Creator. The science does not add up to a point of creation beyond The Big Bang. After which life sped up. The stages of Mankind were once fish, thousands of years later, we were reptiles. This phase formed the reptilian core of our brain. 

When we evolved into mammals, our blood warmed, we bonded to raise children, to be safe from predators, and to forage in teams, sharing food and setting traps to foil our enemies and capture beasts.

That mind evolved past our primate age to the cavemen eras, where hunting utilized bigger and better weapons. With our legs we ran the Savannah, escaping, and fighting bigger predators.

And winning.

Today, our brains and brawn are our biggest selling points. We bond for thousands more reasons than just to bring up the young. We work in groups to build skyscrapers, films, universities, and products that help us pass all this time we have been given.

But if our evolution is ongoing, and if God is not the origin, then why are we asking “Why are we here”?

We know why we’re here. Big Bang, fish, cavemen, hard hats, Victorian plays, conquest, Puritanism, The Renaissance, World War I, the Holocaust, World War II, War in the Middle East, 9 Star Wars Films, Hollywood, Metallica, Linkin Park, Lil Wayne.

All caught up? Great.

We’ve been GROWING ever since we COULD.

So instead of ‘WHY are we HERE’ I think the more important question is ‘WHAT ARE WE GOING TO DO NEXT’??? 

Instead of asking out of the depths of crisis and stress, we switch positions like we’ve just satisfied our lover, and sit back on the pillow thinking one, singular thought.

If you have an immediate answer, then get to work.

If you don’t, it’s ok, marvel in the mystery for a moment. Take your time. Get used to the idea. The QUESTION.

We have spent long enough looking at WHY we’re HERE. Space exploration has found no one else, usually because anything approaching any human-supporting atmosphere doesn’t contain human-similar life.

Even the end of humanity is a known fact. According to my physics textbook from last semester, the sun will explode in a few hundred thousand years, burning every planet in the solar system. Look it up, it has to do with how the sun was born in the first place, and the science is that such a star usually dies. Even if it takes a gajillion (technical term) years.

But in the meantime… we get to play with all the cool stuff that exists!

It doesn’t matter why we’re here if our time is so limited. It matters that we ENJOY OUR TIME while we have it.

We make ourselves better, we hold each other closer, we work together, and FIGURE OUT OURSELVES what we do next.

NO ONE IS WAITING TO TAKE OUR POSITION ON THE MATTER.
