Out of Control Strangers

By Emmanuel Williams

*

Control

On a roll of evolution

I have divided control

*

You are you

As much

As I am I

And it’s just

*

I expect so much

Or at least I used to

Much of me

And so much of you

*

But you are an unknown

A stranger wind blown

A painting walking by

Such illusion in mine eye

*

But if I cannot

Control you

Then you must not

Control me

*

Which makes us both

So goddamn free

I can do as I wish

And you as you please

*

I don’t know you

You don’t know me

*

We are unknown strangers

The mysteries beneath

The skin, the clothes

The eyes, the pose

You and I

Are not the same rose

To assume of your mind

Is to myself unkind

For its you

Who won’t even know

And if such were reversed

Are your thoughts as perverse

*

As mine

As mine

As mine

*
