Eight: Poetry – An Honorable Drink

Is there anything else to drink

Beside this water, aside this juice

Is there anything else to drink

Aside my pain, aside these thoughts

*

Is there ale in these parts

A vodka to cure me

A whiskey to heal me

Some bourbon to fool me

*

Is there anything else

Anything else

Anything worthy

Of feats like mine own

*

Shall there be any fire

To quench my thirst

Any burning drink

Trickled down to the first

*

The first gentleman

And everyman

The thinking man

And drinking man

*

I must say, this is golden

To be with my men

And forget all the women

The unworthy ones

In the presence of she

Who is worthy beyond them

And crazier than any

For drink makes me love them

For drink makes me crave them

For drink turns me up

Higher than weed within me

But if not for her

The one stuck in the shadow

The loyalty bolden

Not craven

To love me

*

So give me this fire

This prince

This bright pyre

This elegant flame

Which I dance, shun my lying

*

Fortune shines on her dog

This man here, nearest logs

My sword sheathed

All war won

Family kept

Savior’s son

*

Kill me with’t in my throat

With my belt loose and toss’d

The meat cooking my taste

With my haste all abated

*

Give courage to children

And honor to sages

Give court to the only wench present

Though there ain’t none waitin’

*

Give bars every penny

The waitress tends many

All a stupor for the cue

To find someone like you

*

Give honor to the toast

Give a man to be the host

And give his child the head cloak

Once his day comes so close

*

Be here now

Whiskey whiskey

If not

Vodka vodka

*

For beer

Will be here

Should we need

To drink free

*

80 proof

ABV

Percentage

Just drinkage

*

Tequila

Will kill ya

But rum

Will unyield ya

*

Give me drink

Give mercy

For now and

The morning

*

If I wretch

Hold me hair

Or leave me

In peace there

*

You won’t know

What’s enough

Till you

Let me be tough

*

Just don’t

Take it away

Gone like songs

Yesterday

*

Memory

Will keep us

Close together

When drinkin’

*

I say “aye”

I say “yes”

I say “gimme”

I request!

*

Gimme beer

Gimme wine

Gimme liq’

Before swine

*

For the morn

Is thine fiend

But the night

Is thy friend…

*

And a moment for the gin

Who has always been this man’s friend

Flavorless or apple

Or lime with the Dew

All is forgiven

With an empty cup of gin

*

fin
