Two of a Kind

By Emmanuel Williams

Is that the groove? Is that the end of it? Should we all want our pair, at last?

I want love just like you or a meerkat or a gorilla stuck with bananas and trees all their life. But why shouldn’t a gorilla mate with its pair, or it’s opposite?

What is the opposite of a gorilla?

Or furthermore, what if the gorilla met his match???

You see, there are 3 possible positive relationships with which I must currently tango:

  1. Two of Kind
  2. Opposites that Attract
  3. Meeting your Match

I want to know which of these is in the best interest of fate, or whoever may be in charge of ours as human beings…

Let us observe two of a kind.

Here you have a 7 of Clubs and a 7 of Clubs. A king of hearts and a king of hearts. A queen of diamonds and a queen of diamonds. A Jack of Spades and well, you know.

One person loves horses and KPop and blue jeans. No one ever understands their oddity. Then comes along a person of same or opposite sex who also loves horses and KPop and wears nothing but jeans as a matter of personal rebellion.

Two of a Kind. The first person could just kiss the second every time they see them. Finally someone who understands.

Second, of the Opposites that Attract we have the short one and the tall one, the skinny one and the thicker one, the ugly one and the pretty one, the dumb one and the smart one… And my personal favorite, the black one with the white one.

Apparently they have found something of an agreement, if they are not just Two of a Kind in personality.

Hell, that might be the holy grail of love!

Sure makes a great fucking American movie.

It is worth noting that black hair with a redhead is not quite “opposite”, it is a niche that plays well with either head involved.

But I digress.

Third, we have the true anomaly: Meeting your Match.

No matter how dumb you are, if you meet someone dumber, you’re going to feel a boost in your ego about the off chance that you are indeed smarter than fucking someone, and if they’re interested in dating you, maybe you can finally handle the conversation coming at you.

There’s the opposite, though. If you have always been the smartest person in the room, and finally someone puts you in your place yet still wants to kiss you after proving you wrong. Usually in such a scenario you have held your own in the argument before a kiss was ready for anyone.

These are only two of the ways a lover can be caught off their game and end up with someone who is built to challenge them while still being available to be loved by them.

But which is the best way to search for a partner in this godforsaken, twisted, chopped, screwed, and force fed life?

My position is the same as it has always been: all of the above!

If you find your perfect… holy sh-

SHIT!!

What about COMPLIMENTARY partners?

It’s like opposites, but it’s opposites who are ASSETS to each other.

One likes doing the laundry, the other likes to do the cooking, but they both eat dinner with an episode of The Big Bang Theory. Or one of them likes to cut hair and the other likes to style hair, but they have matching Harry Potter tattoos of the glasses with the lightning bolt!!

The truth is, whoever is in charge of fate will give you someone. Maybe someone fitting these 3 – I mean – 4 examples of a good match, then you can finally play “The Trapeze Swinger” by Iron & Wine as you wake up in the middle of the night next to them hoping they wake up and hear it so you can make love to them in the sweet, human-hogging sex that makes you two who you are.

Naked as you came…

Maybe love will shine upon us all with our best fit. Because we’ve all heard tell of the sad people who died without love. Who were murdered for loving someone they shouldn’t have according to rules set by mostly prudes or religious fanatics gone mad. Who were victims of a cruel world, or maybe just a cruel time to be alive.

I once heard the story of a boy in an indigenous community who killed himself because he saw his girl with another man.

So, yeah, one can die from jealousy. But only if they kill themselves I’d like to believe.

But if you live with hope that someone is there for you, then you can die with hope, you can die loving she who has never come, or he who has never found you…

And we all would rather die in the arms of the ones we loved intimately.

I want that for me.

I want that for you.

Die loving someone.

It’s the least you can do…
