Usually when you tune into a Milwaukee Brewers home game, you get plenty of organ music, lively happy chatter from commentators and an overall fun baseball atmosphere. That was not the case for Game 5 against the Chicago Cubs in this Division game.

The way the post season is structured, the winner of this game moves on to face the L.A. Dodgers for a spot in the World Series.

The Cubs had every opportunity.

They got to the scoreboard first with a homer from Seiya Suzuki early in the innings and it felt like that momentum would pay off. Until the Brewers subbed in the rookie, Jacob Misiorowski, who pitched about 3 innings to Chicago’s complete dismay.

They never scored again, and the Brewers defeated the Cubs 3-1.

Capping off a 3-2 National League Division Series where Milwaukee won the first 2 games only for Chicago to rally 2 straight games in response.

The Cubs haven’t been this far in the postseason for the last 5 years. The last time the Cubs made the playoffs? 2020 in a shortened season due to COVID. 

The Brewers have had better luck, but mostly lost in the National League Wild Card Series in 2023 and 2024, with their last NLDS ending in a loss to the Atlanta Braves in 2021.

And for the most part that was the tale that was told.

Pitching for the Cubs started with Drew Pomeranz and the Brewers simply couldn’t find the ball. Next they went with Colin Rea who saw the most time on the mount and how Milwaukee got their first homer for two runs hit by Andrew Vaughn at the bottom of the 4th.

The next shot for the Cubs at bat came with 2 on base for the first time in the top of the 6th with Aaron Ashby pitching with the arm of a spaghetti noodle. But when Suzuki stepped up to bat the Brewers pulled Ashby in and replaced him with Chad Patrick, who dismissed every hitter there on out.

In the end it was a show of pure denial put on by the Milwaukee Brewers with the right flare at the right time.

In the bottom of the 8th it looked like the Cubs had no cards left to play and put Andrew Kittredge on the mount who made the Art of Pitching look like a terrible Dad Joke with a long fart in place of the punchline.

And with a scoreless top of the 9th the Cubs conceded the game, and the series, to Milwaukee.

The next challenge for the Brewers is hosting the LA Dodgers for the National League Championship Series which is available for viewing on TBS and HBO Max.

The winner of the series will face the winner of the American League Championship Series, either the Toronto Blue Jays or the Seattle Mariners. Viewing available on FOX.

Championship winners will play in the World Series.
